چکیده
The aim of this study was to develop mathematical models estimate the leaf area common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) in irrigated and non-irrigated water regimes from linear dimensions. An experiment carried out a completely randomized design with 3×2 factorial arrangement (three cultivars: Triunfo, Garapiá FC 104; two regimes: non-irrigated) 25 replicates each. A total 523 trifoliates were collected throughout crop cycle. length (L, cm) width (W, central leaflet trifoliate measured their product (LW) (cm²) calculated. Leaf area estimation by a simple and non-destructive method
In this study, the relation between leaf area and its dimensions was estimated using a non-destructive method. This method is based on this fact that the leaf shape does not change during the growing season. In this method, leaf area during the growing season is estimated based on the dimensions of the smallest leaf in the initial stage of plant growth or at any growth stage by measuring the le...
متن کاملOn the Origin of the Common Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Phylogeographic methods provide the tools to accurately access the geographic origin and diversification of crop species. In the present commentary, I urge the common bean community to face those methods and a tree-thinking mentality with regards to the long standing debate of the origin of common bean. Such efforts will ultimately bring back interest into wild bean studies and reinforce the un...
متن کاملVariation in parameters related to leaf thickness in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Greater leaf thickness is usually associated with greater leaf carbon assimilation rate, but the tradeoff between thicker versus larger leaves also affects canopy structure and light interception. Many studies equate the ratio of dry leaf mass to area (leaf specific mass) with leaf thickness. This approximation has utility but ignores differences in true thickness due to variation in water or a...

Phenotypic diversity among Croatian common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) landraces was assessed by analysing 12 qualitative and six quantitative traits in 338 accessions collected from all production areas in Croatia. Out of 12 qualitative morphological traits, seed coat colour was the most polymorphic among accessions having the highest Shannon’s information index and discriminating power. Out ...
